And it could be the reason you’re not seeing progress on the pole…
Tania Sparkle here, Hypnotherapist and Mindset Coach, and today I want to talk about the incredible power of your MINDSET when training.
If you’ve been feeling stagnant in your progress, doubting your abilities, or spiraling into “WTF is wrong with me” energy during a class—you’re not broken. You just might not be training your mind the way you train your body. See you can train harder than anyone, pushing your body to the limits and running combos to exhaustion… But if your mindset isn’t in the game, it’s going make it so much harder to achieve the progress you want. And I am all about training smarter, not harder!
Because pole isn’t just physical—it’s deeply mental and emotional too.
Have you ever tried to master a move, run a routine or do your strength drills when you’re feeling frustrated, overwhelmed, disheartened or completely distrusting of your body? I’m guessing you don’t see the results you want. Maybe your mind is full of chatter like:
“This is too hard”
“I’m never going to master this trick”
“Ugh, I suck at this”
“Everyone is doing so much better than me”
And other super critical self-talk!
Now this kind of mental chatter is super common, but, it’s not helpful, productive or kind to you, so, let’s replace it with some things that are!
Here are 5 MINDSET MOVES you can start using immediately to elevate your training:
1. Visualise Before You Attempt
Spend 30 seconds seeing yourself nailing a move before you physically attempt it. Your brain doesn’t actually know the difference, and mental rehearsal creates new neural pathways over time so the more your do it, the better your results!
2. Flip Your Self-Talk
Catch yourself in the “I suck at this” moment and flip it, fast. Try: “I’m getting stronger every time I try this,” or “This is challenging me in the best way.” Training your self-talk is just as important as training your grip strength.
3. Celebrate the Tiny Wins
Held that trick for one second longer? Landed weird but got up like a queen? That’s a win. The more you celebrate, the more your brain links pole with progress, not pressure.
4. Breathe Like It Matters (Because It Does)
When you’re upside down and panicking, the breath is the first to go. So pause. Inhale deeply. Exhale slowly. Reset your nervous system and watch how much smoother everything flows.
5. Stop Comparing Your Journey To Others
They say that “comparison is the thief of joy”, and boy, can it suck the joy out of pole! So instead of thinking “I’ll never be as good as X”, ask: “How can I be 1% better today than I was yesterday?”. Channel that energy into your own lane—where the real progress happens!
